The Transplants
Everett and Missy sold their urban homestead in Denver in 2009 and moved to a small farm in the Blue Ridge Mountains of rural southwest Virginia. LivingASimpleLife.com was originally their personal blog. They felt it wasn’t giving a wide enough perspective on the many ways people are choosing to rethink voluntary complexity, which sparked the idea of inviting other bloggers to participate.
Their approach to the simple life involves two major branches:
#1. Leveraging appropriate technologies (high-speed internet, online affiliate marketing, graphic design, SEO…) in order to free themselves geographically from the city and office, while balancing their use of technology with their desire to be more self-sufficient. #2. Reducing expenses with a combination of comfortable frugality and more DIY so they can afford to work less and enjoy life more. Think The 4-Hour Work Week (with less moral relativism) combined with a milder version of the Nearing’s Good Life.
Missy knits & sews, does graphic design and keeps her rabbits, cats, dogs, baby and husband (not in that order) well-fed and well-loved. Everett runs a few dozen websites, does SEO consulting, writes, reads, and keeps the chickens, turkey, guineas, baby-mamma, baby and a few other critters warm and well-loved. Everett writes about voluntary simplicity. This blog catalogs his search for "the good life" as he tries to strike a balance between work and play, freedom and responsibility, simplicity and comfort.
