Building A Deck On Our Cabin.

[ 6 ] February 5, 2011 |

Finished Deck

For the past few months the sky has seemed to be a constant grey overcast, snow plentiful and temperatures in the single digits.  I like getting outside in winter, but with these conditions I don’t stay out long these days.  So when we recently had a warm January day I knew it was time to take full advantage of the day and work on an outside project that’s been on my agenda since November!  We’re getting real close to finishing our guest cabin and although working inside this winter has been very welcome, I couldn’t help myself by being sidetracked by the promise of sunny skies and a ‘hot’ 50 degree afternoon!  So, I knew it was a perfect day to build the small deck on our guest cabin.  I had all of the materials already (most left over from framing and siding the cabin) and went at it.  This small deck took about 2 hours to build.

About Tommyfreerange: Outdoorsy by nature, I love spending time in the woods, whether it is taking a leisurely walk around my property, hiking a few miles, or going on extended backpacking trips. I also love just about everything that involves homesteading and pursuing the simple life. Chopping firewood, building sheds and cabins, helping fellow homesteaders on their projects, canning applesauce, planting, and hanging out with my two daughters are some of the greatest joys in my life. And I've got to mention what someone once pointed out to me - I can’t help but smile every time I drive my tractor! View author profile.

You did that in 2 hours by yourself? You’re quick! It looks good too. Got any pictures of the whole thing?

  2. Yeah, the longest part was planning it out in my head which I didn’t account for. Plus I had all of the materials ready to go when I started. I haven’t gotten extensive pictures yet. But, plan to get some very soon (probably the next “warm” day we have.

  3. Looks like a very good job!!

    Steve,

Your design sounds great. And you never know when that someday will come. I never lost hope and finally got to build mine after 10+ years of dreaming.
