Introducing Tommy & Amber: TreeStone Farm
Hello great world!
This is our first time blogging. We are truly passionate about living close to the earth and being as self-sufficient as possible. We were inspired and encouraged by a friend to share our stories with others. Although we are far from perfection, we’ve been pursuing a homesteading lifestyle for over a decade. I guess some things like recycling building materials, composting, and no-till gardening are the norm for us and didn’t realize others might want to learn more or hear about what we’re doing.
We also live in a wonderful community with many other like-minded folk – giving us access to much of the knowledge we are interested in expanding into, such as saving seeds, installing solar panels, building a greenhouse and/or solar dehydrator and so on. We didn’t always live in such a supportive place. In fact, we intentionally moved to escape the isolation of a depressed and mainstream area where our lifestyle was often seen as weird. Somehow, being a vegetarian that recycles, and is interested in homebirth and cloth diapers put me off the chart of normal.
Anyhow, by embracing technology we are now never alone. With little effort, almost anyone can access information and be connected to others that have similar passions. Thank you for checking us out. We look forward to hearing from you!

Everett writes about voluntary simplicity. This blog catalogs his search for "the good life" as he tries to strike a balance between work and play, freedom and responsibility, simplicity and comfort.

Well, I’m somewhat older than you but I used cloth diapers with both my children and later with my foster babies..I just liked them better and it was cheaper not to mention better for our earth…I’ve been recycling since the 80s…I’ve lived in areas where we could recycle glass, cans aluminum, paper and glass..so we had very little actual garbage…where I am not we only have pick up for cans, aluminum, and paper. Still, I have very little garbage.
We’ve gardened on a larger scale and canned our vegetables, raised beef cattle…presently we have a smaller garden but retirement looms near in our future so we’re looking at doing more and also having some chickens…I enjoy reading what others are doing in all of these areas.
We have been expanding our gardens and canning/freezing a lot more these past few years than ever in the past. We even raised some pigs for the first time these past two years. The more we do around the homestead to help make us more sustainable just really fills me up inside. It is truly a great feeling and I guess that’s why we like this lifestyle so much.
hey there! so happy to know you folks. I look forward to being a geek about bees with you, learning more about your community, and playing with our kids. call me anytime!
This is wonderful… I love you guys. Please share any useful resources that you come across and keep the information flowing on this topic at your conveinence. I’m taking notes for when I can break free from the rat race.
Sincerely your student,
Lisa
Hey Tommy! This is awesome. You’ve told me about your home and your family. So great to see a little of what you’ve been doing. Haven’t met your wife yet, Hi Amber! I look forward to seeing your posts and I’ll see you in New York.
P.S. Eric is getting ready to brew his first batch of home brew
Hi Lisa,
We miss you! If you get a weekend come down and see the cabin that we had started the last time you visited. It turned out great. We just finished tiling the floors and now working on the wall (a combination of drywall and sawmill lumber). Then paint and trim and we’re done!
It was nice chatting the other evening Erika. Next time we know we’ll see ya, we’ll bring some of our honey for you! I know Amber wants to get together again, maybe we can plan something whenever I get back from my works trips.
Hum?! We’re getting ready to bottle some beer and had planned to put a short video/blog on here. Tell Eric to check this site out in a few days to watch the video. Amber is coming with me to NYC this year. We’ll see you in a few weeks!
Just stumbled upon your blog and already enjoying it. Looking forward to future posts.
Thank Tel, I appreciate your comments. It’s people like you that are giving us the motivation to do this. Because like Everett said, we’re very busy doing and we’re trying to find a balance between doing what we love on our homestead and how to share some of what we do with other folks.
Amber,
There is nothing weird about you. You are a breath of fresh air living each day to the fullest. Stay the way you are.
Love
Aunt Nancy
