One Way to Make Apple Butter
This is my first time making apple butter, but it tastes good and the process was much easier than I thought it would be so we’ve decided to share the process in this video below. I hope you like it. If you have a better method or recipe we’d love to read about it in the comments section below the video!
We gave several jars away, but managed to keep six jars of apple butter for ourselves, as well as a few jars of apple sauce. Seeing as how our neighbors returned the favor with a box of peaches and some peach preserves, I’d say we came out better than even. We also made and canned some blackberry jam/syrup a few weeks ago – so, if nothing else, at least we’ll have plenty of yummy spreads to put on our bread.

We believe that humankind has lost some important things in the march toward progress. That is not to say progress and simplicity are mutually exclusive. We believe we can have both, and this site catalogs our journey as we try to do exactly that.

It’s a little late in the season now, but for future reference, I’ve been told you can use a surplus of Zucchini, cook it down in the slow cooker, season the same as apple butter and they say you can’t tell the difference.! I haven’t personally tried it, but it sounds reasonable and I’m intigued by the idea.
This is great, Everett — thanks for posting! I’m curious… what’s the reasoning behind holding back a portion of the applesauce and adding it later to the cooked apple butter? Why not just put 100% of the stuff in the crock pot?
