Spring is Sprouting in Floyd County Virginia

[ 3 ] March 15, 2012 |

Spring is fastly approaching.  This evening after watering my peas (yes, they are up about an inch now!) I went for a walk around my property starting at the creek and noticed the skunk cabbage is about 3-4 inches out of the ground already.  A little further I saw a bunch of new greenbriar growth, some of my fruit trees budding out and, of course, a bunch of crocuses and daffodils.  Near dark I also heard a ton of spring peepers, then I went down to where my Shittake logs are, not expecting anything this early but excited for what is to come!

Fire

First campfire of the season

It was such a nice evening that I was inspired to build a small campfire; just something to continue to ignite the spring sprouting in and around me.  What a wonderful way to spend a Wednesday evening.

About Tommyfreerange: Outdoorsy by nature, I love spending time in the woods, whether it is taking a leisurely walk around my property, hiking a few miles, or going on extended backpacking trips. I also love just about everything that involves homesteading and pursuing the simple life. Chopping firewood, building sheds and cabins, helping fellow homesteaders on their projects, canning applesauce, planting, and hanging out with my two daughters are some of the greatest joys in my life. And I've got to mention what someone once pointed out to me - I can’t help but smile every time I drive my tractor! View author profile.

Hi Tommy. I bet it was nice to see Spring coming. It is coming here as well. It is nice you enjoy the simplier things God provides us.

  2. Yeah, I constantly work on slowing down enough to really see and feel the beauty around me. It’s sad when I get in a hurry, or stuck in my head/thoughts and miss out on the miraclous life abounding everywhere outside of me.

    Hello!

This may seem a bit silly but I was wondering where the e-mail addresses are? I’ve been reading articles from the website for quite some time, but I haven’t seen many articles regarding urban homesteading. I’m trying to see if there is still a need for an urban homesteading blogger as I think I would be a good fit for it. If someone could please contact me, I would love to talk to someone and see if there is still a need.
