The Stomach Virus Has Left The Building!
I have been better for a few days now and Missy actually left the house today for the first time in over a week. That stomach virus she brought back from Ohio was a persistent little bugger!
But we are set to have a dry, sunny weekend here in SW VA so I am looking forward to getting back outside and enjoying some of our final days of summer. I’m going to do some painting and bridge-building, but we’re also going to check out the Hillsville flea market (trying to find a small wood-burning stove) and will probably go to Chateau Morrisette Winery on a Sunday afternoon for some relaxing music, a glass of wine with cheese, and some fresh air.
We have lots of activities planned over the next few months. Now that my work situation has changed, I will be able to get the outdoor work done during the day, work for pay at night, and enjoy our weekends free of pressure to be “doing something”. We will have time to visit friends and family in far-away places, get started on that book (finally) and – most importantly – just “do nothing” other than contemplating life and loving each other. The more I think about it the more confident I am in the leap we just took.
The stomach virus is gone; the sky is blue; I’m not chained to my desk during the afternoons anymore – and I’m going to go pick some apples to make apple butter.
À la prochaine!

We believe that humankind has lost some important things in the march toward progress. That is not to say progress and simplicity are mutually exclusive. We believe we can have both, and this site catalogs our journey as we try to do exactly that.

I’m so glad Missy is feeling better! I guess we probably could have gone biking tomorrow after all, but it’s probably better she take it easy for a while anyway.
